Boise Art Museum: It’s pART of Our Lives

It’s impossible to talk about art in Idaho without mentioning the Boise Art Museum (BAM). For more than 80 years, the museum has been giving everyone in our community the chance to live in a world filled with art. From toddlers to seniors, professional educators to homeschoolers, rural communities to fashionistas, people from all walks of life have been inspired by BAM’s exhibitions, collections, events, and educational opportunities. It’s hard to understate the impact they’ve had on the Treasure Valley and for that, we are truly grateful.

According to BAM, many people in our community grow up without experiencing original artwork in a museum. Numerous Idaho families lack the resources to buy basic art supplies. Most children in Idaho do not create or learn about art in public schools. The museum meets these issues head-on with a jam-packed calendar of free and affordable classes, workshops, and educational programs. Their staff understands that art is an essential part of our lives, helping us express ourselves and make connections with the world around us.

Huge supporters of education, the museum offers free school tours, First Thursday events, classroom resources, and more. Their ArtReach program takes art lessons, materials, and museum passes to rural classrooms. They inspire students from pre-K to high school to be creative, use their imaginations, and have fun. Teacher Professional Development programs give teachers the opportunity to learn strategies, develop techniques, and expand resources that can be used in the classroom.

And of course, there’s one of the Treasure Valley’s favorite annual events. Boise Art Museum’s Art in the Park is widely recognized as one of the premiere cultural events in the Northwest. Held each September, this open-air festival provides visitors of all ages and interests with the opportunity to meet more than 250 artists and purchase their works. During the three-day event, BAM presents a variety of contemporary arts and crafts along with live entertainment, delicious food, and hands-on activities for children.
